Layout Planning & Species Selection
| Once authorised we will plan the tree planting layout with the clients main interests at heart, whether that is habitat creation, timber production or amenity planting around an existing feature or pond/lake. |
Choosing the correct tree species will depend on soil type, drainage, exposure and elevation, landscape, environmental considerations and production potential.
When taking the above factors into account tree selection can be chosen based on the local conditions. In certain areas the presence of deer, rabbits or squirrels may limit choice of species, and trees planted may require additional protection.
If planting has been funded using grants from the Forestry Commission then there may be some species or planting criteria stipulated as part of the grant funding. This could be in the form of either species selection aimed more at hardwood restoration on a PAWS (Plantation on Ancient Woodland Site) and will also require a more random planting style as opposed to the more formal row system normally planted. Obviously if you decide to fund your own planting scheme privately without using the grants system then you have more of a say on which species you choose to plant.
